Corinne was never the religious type, but she held no distaste for organized faith. As a historian, she took an interest in it, and as... something supernatural herself, she felt almost obligated to come to that particular spot - The Sanctuary of Lourdes.
According to Legend, the spot where the sanctuary now stands was described to a miller's daughter by an apparition. The water is said to have healing properties, and over the past century and a half, millions of people from all over the world have come to Lourdes with otherwise incurable illnesses. Many call it superstition, but almost seventy healings have been confirmed, despite the lack of a scientific explanation.
Being healthy, her motives may have been somewhat different, but either way, she stepped into the crowded courtyard of the towering sanctuary, opting to walk around instead of waiting in a long line.

Aurora felt frustrated, so she came to Lourdes to think. There were rumours that the water cleansed your mind, helped you think. If only it could "cleanse" Erik's mind. He was so messed up. Aurora had promised Kia to keep him mentally strong before she died. Aurora would not fail her best friend, especially after death. Although, she was unsure that Erik would ever be able to get over Kia. He was so broken. Better yet, Erik had fled to another country. She had yet to figure out where the heck he was. Probably where the best pubs where. After Kia's death, he started drinking like a crazy person. It eased the pain, he probably believed. Aurora, not looking where she was going, bumped into a blonde girl by accident. "Oh, sorry." Aurora was very absent-minded these days. She, too, wasn't standing in line. Weirdly, she introduced herself. The girl probably didn't have time for her, but for some reason, Aurora alwats bothered to make small talk. "I'm Aurora."

She carried onward, scoping out the stone walls of the Sanctuary of Lourdes. She must have gotten absorbed by the mystique of the place- she couldn't remember what she was doing, or even where she was going until she felt the collision. Oh! France. Lourdes. Water. Fluid. Right.
As important as the task she had given herself was, it could wait. For now, the girl who had just bumped into her was more pertinent. "Oh, hi!" She waved cordially. "Don't worry about it. Things like that happen, especially in a place this crowded. I'm Corinne, by the way."

There was always time to socialize, and Aurora needed to clear her head anyway. Too many problems. "Nice to meet you, Corinne." The girl seemed nice enough. "So, what brings you here? Looking to heal yourself?" She gestured to the line. It was kind of ridiculous. All the magic had long flowed out of the waters, blessings destroyed. Most didn't know that, and she kind of pitied them. Sometimes a witch blessed them now and then, and that explained all the healings. At least, that's what Aurora had been taught. Mista had originally informed her about it, but she was gone. In truth, Aurora kind of missed her sister, but hated her at the same time. At least she had helped her escape. And again, Aurora regretted that a little bit. Mista was a bad person.

She gave the woman an earnest smile. "It's nice to meet you, too, Aurora." She eyed the line, chuckling lightly. "I'm hear to better myself a bit, but I think I'm going to wait until the line gets a bit shorter." Secretly more impressed with the building than the grotto for the time being, she looked to the wall one more time. "Do you know if we're ever allowed inside, by the way?" She could have gotten herself in trouble by asking as much. If the answer was no, she would only have wanted to go inside even more.

"Do you know if we're ever allowed to go inside?" Aurora smiled at the girl. "I don't think so, but that wouldn't stop me from entering." Human history was slightly interesting to her. Being raised a witch, she was rather unfamiliar with it. Witchcraft was boring to her, mainly because she knew it all by heart. It seems that the things you grow up around are the most boring. Human history, still, was far more widespread, richer in information. From wars, to inventions, struggles to survive. Magical creatures had it much easier. A few simple verses got them whatever they wanted. Aurora wondered how on earth humans survived after all those years. Surely werewolves, vampires and others would have wiped them out by now? It was an unanswered question, one that Aurora wanted to find out. How did they have the tools, the strength? Nobody knew, but Aurora would one day, she swore to it.

Aurora was growing on her quickly. People who weren't intimidated by boundaries were fun, unless they were the way they were because they were just unintelligent instead of adventurous or open-minded. "We'll have to go in together some day, then- well, not soon, I mean. I'm not sure how much you travel, so I can't strong-arm someone I just met into a..."
She shifted her eyes, having successfully confused herself. "Sorry, I'm not sure where I was going with that." She waved a hand again out of habit. "Still, did you come here to get healed at all- maybe with someone who wanted to?"

"We'll have to go in together some day, then- well, not soon, I mean. I'm not sure how much you travel, so I can't strong-arm someone I just met into a..." Aurora smiled. "That's definitely okay. I'm pretty good at getting myself out of those kind of situations." Yeah, with her powers. Aurora herself could deflect anything that came at her. "Besides, human history... I find it interesting." Human? Did she just say human? Relax. It's not that big of a slip-up. She won't notice. "Still, did you come here to get healed at all- maybe with someone who wanted to?" The girl asked her. "Oh, I'm just here because- Well, the waters are rumoured to clear your mind. And honestly? I really need to think right now. Lots of Things I need to figure out." She laughed a little. "I think I force it on myself, really."

"I'm not half-bad at it, either," she admitted. Her smile widened. "Look at us! We've been talking for less than a minute now and we're already planning to break into holy grounds!" Her jovial tone put unintentional emphasis on her accent.
"Yeah, human history is really something," she agreed. "Then again, going back any further pretty much becomes more about dinosaurs and biology than culture." She eyed the line- it seemed to be getting longer instead of shorter.
Aurora's reason for being in Lourdes put a more somber expression on Corinne's face. "I'm sorry to hear it... if you need to talk about anything, I'm sure I can hear you out. We probably haven't met many of the same people, so it's not like I'm going to tell anyone."

"I'm not half-bad at it, either," she admitted. Aurora smiled at that. The girl didn't lack a sense of adventure, and she liked that. "Look at us! We've been talking for less than a minute now and we're already planning to break into holy grounds!" She nodded, laughing a little. "Two troublemakers meet, and they bond at once. How typical."
"Yeah, human history is really something," Corinne agreed. "Then again, going back any further pretty much becomes more about dinosaurs and biology than culture." Aurora waved that a wave. "I'm not too interested in reptiles. I think that only culture holds my attention."
"I'm sorry to hear it... if you need to talk about anything, I'm sure I can hear you out. We probably haven't met many of the same people, so it's not like I'm going to tell anyone." She probably hadn't met the Phoenix, which was probably for the best. "Yeah. Well, it's more like I can't stop helping people... Which doesn't exactly help me. I'm dealing with a complete drunk and a runaway sister. Both, actually, are nowhere to be found." Why did she tell her this? Maybe she just wanted someone to listen.

She didn't just laugh at Corinne's dramatization, but she also sent back her wave. Corinne reasoned that the woman had a decent sense of humor, if not better. "I've never been one for reptiles, either. Far be it from me to say we're better than another species, but..." she paused, shifted her eyes to the Sanctuary, and gestured toward it with both of her arms. "We did that."
She tried not to give too strong of an opinion on Aurora's personal issues. "An alcoholic?" Her voice seemed to drop in volume. "I know how that feels..." And because of that, a certain alcoholic knows what having a runaway feels like, she thought to add.

"We did that." Aurora shook her head, slightly. "Perhaps not..." Me. she was about to say. Aurora was a witch, not a human. But then again... Every species had it's bad sides. Vampires? Did they even have a good side? Werewolves were uptight. Almost every species killed. Even Aurora, being a Phoenix witch and all.
"An alcoholic?" Her voice seemed different as she said that. "I know how that feels..." Aurora was surprised, although she didn't know why. "Well, I have on my hands, one broken guy." Her expression turned soft. "I don't think I can... Unbreak him, and I promised someone. The same someone who broke him."

"Perhaps not...
Not knowing she was talking to someone else like her, she read into the passing comment in a different way altogether. "Well, not us, the French, but [most] would say that the French are more closely related to us than to the dinosaurs." She swept a lock of hair back over her eyes as it slid down. "Which reminds me, where are you from?"
"Hm... so you promised the person who ruined this guy's life that you would undo all the harm that he did?" It sounded rough to her, but she had no part in directing Aurora unless she had a gem of sound advice tucked away somewhere.

"Well, not us, the French, but [most] would say that the French are more closely related to us than to the dinosaurs." Aurora smiled. "That wasn't exactly what I had meant, but go on." The girl did. "Which reminds me, where are you from?" Aurora almost laughed as she answered this. "Phoenix." Well, it was true, but not in the sense that humans would perceive as.
"Hmm... so you promised the person who ruined this guy's life that you would undo all the harm that he did?" Aurora shook her head. "She. The girl, my best friend, broke him when she died." Realizing that she wasn't looking very sad, Aurora almost went on to explain, but stopped herself. What can I say? The girl is a freaking angel?

"Phoenix? As in, Arizona?" Her face seemed to light up. "I've always wanted to go there!" Her hands clenched one another above her neck excitedly. "I... was born in Boston," she carried on. "I don't know if it would be fair to say that I'm from there these days... I don't like the people there. It's like the city is only good for its tourism." She was telling the truth, which was why she sympathized even more with Aurora's grievances.
She made a promise to a dead person... interesting enough. That could only mean she made the promise as her friend was on her dying breath- or, more likely, she was speaking to someone as far from mundane as she was. Maybe she knows the same about me... that would explain why she's dropping so many hints my way. Human history? That's usually something to go off of. "So, a dying wish... I'm sorry."
