Why was she telling Corinne all this? A total stranger? "So, a dying wish... I'm sorry." Aurora smiled sadly. "Not... Exactly." And then, to be way more obvious about it, Aurora continued. "Do you believe in the supernatural?" She didn't wait for an answer, continuing. "She kind of.. Knew it was coming. You know, the psyche." Aurora started to laugh. "You probably think I'm crazy, Corinne." Good lord, was she crazy? Telling a complete stranger about Kia's power? Aurora seriously needed to check herself over. If you were supporting Arcanism, was it really wise to tell someone about magic? It was ironic, really, and the Phoenix would probably kill her if they found out. Yes, she had a lovely... family.

As usual, a spot-on guess. She allowed herself a satisfied laugh for a few short seconds before speaking. "Aurora," she started up, nodding off the rest of her laugh as she quietly flourished a hand. "I know what you're talking about. So, what's this girl's thing- did she come back as an apparition on you?"
Her stare grew a mite more serious, but was still welcoming. "It wouldn't be difficult for me to believe. You know, the whole concept of Lourdes and its water sprung up from a girl who spoke with an apparition. Maybe your promise is the same." She had hoped the girl wasn't just insane at this point- if that were the case, she would have been embarrassing herself.

Aurora shook her head yet again, while being slightly surprised at Corinne's calm attitude. "No- no. She was a psychic. She could see the future." Aurora paused. More like... A witch. "She made me promise when she found out, so that's pretty much why I'm up over my head in troubles. I don't think she'd would have known that it would be this hard." Aurora laughed, while cursing herself. She was being so stupid. Get a grip, Aura. Shut up about magic or... You'll both be dead. And Mista? My god, don't tell her about your sister! You are so weak, Aurora. Shup up. Shut up. Remember, you're talking to a human. "And again, I know that sounds crazy. It's true, though. She had a... Gift." Well, hell with that. Aurora had a gift too. And safe to say, it was better that Kia's. Deflection. She could save herself from anything magical. The offense part? It would come later. After all, she would develop another power someday. Mista was undoubtedly stronger. Pyrokinsesis? Aurora sighed. She kind of missed her.

She was getting surer of herself by the second. "Psychics aren't unheard-of," she told him. "Even I've met a few- don't worry, I'd be the last person to doubt you..." She took a pause. "Especially when some people have even crazier gifts." Her expression became a bit more adventurous.
"You sound like you've seen a lot of this sort of thing. I'm surprised you're so unsure about talking about it." Depending on who she was talking to, she could have been breaking a boundary with that last statement, but she didn't care. What was the worst that could happen? Magic Police coming to take her in? She didn't associate much with Arcanists, so that wasn't much of a possibility... unless they were getting serious.

"Even I've met a few- don't worry, I'd be the last person to doubt you..." Corinne paused. "Especially when some people have even crazier gifts." Her expression seemed mischievous to Aurora. Now who's dropping hints? She was suspicious. Oh, this is ridiculous. I'm just going to go out and say it. "Are you...?" Aurora would let the girl finish the sentence on her own. She didn't need any humans knowing, but if this one already knew, she wouldn't be the one to kill her, as the custom was. Unless... The girl was magical? Was she? Aurora never considered the possibility, but that just may be. Now excited to hear Corinne's answer, Aurora imagined having a non-Phoenix non-drunk magical friend.

"Are you..."
She listened as Aurora rolled off into a pause. Deciding that she had established herself well enough, she decided to jump at the opening she was left. "I'm... definitely something, if I'm reading you right," she replied. Her dark blue eyes almost seemed to shine in the passing sunlight.
"I can't show you anything too flashy in front of all these people, but here." She extended a hand. "Give me your hand and tell me how you wish you felt right now. Happy? Excited? Maybe just relaxed?" Her confidence was evident in the way she spoke.

"I'm... definitely something, if I'm reading you right," Aurora nodded, narrowing her eyes. "Hopefully you are..." Hopefully, for both of us. "I can't show you anything too flashy in front of all these people, but here." She gave her hand. "Give me your hand and tell me how you wish you felt right now. Happy? Excited? Maybe just relaxed?" Aurora smiled, but shook her head. "I don't have enough control... To let you do that yet." Her voice dropped to a whisper. "Deflection. That's what I do. I can't choose when it works on me yet. But, I will." Aurora smiled. "You can always... Tell me. Not here, of course." She was confident in the fact that Corinne was magical.

"Deflection," she repeated. "You mean, deflecting magic? Warding off mind readers? Bullets?" Corinne wanted to cover all the bases. She hadn't heard anyone call a power deflection yet. It would have been good to have a good grasp on what exactly it implied before she moved on.
She tapped her canteen twice. "I can control water- at least, I thought it was just water," she explained. "I can handle more complicated fluids, too, but if I don't take a minute to focus with them, I'll end up hurting myself." She looked at one of her bracelets, remembering the time it almost snapped. "I've learned to use it in interesting ways."

"You mean, deflecting magic? Warding off mind readers? Bullets?" Aurora nodded. "Only deflecting magic right now, but it will grow to, well, anything. It's pretty useful, and in the future, I might be able to choose when deflecting." "I can control water- at least, I thought it was just water," she explained. "I can handle more complicated fluids, too, but if I don't take a minute to focus with them, I'll end up hurting myself." So like an elemental, but different? Interesting. "I've learned to use it in interesting ways." Aurora smiled. "I'd just love to hear about this." Aurora smiled mischievously. "My power is no fun, at least, not yet. I can't even take offense with it willingly, unless an attack bounces off me to the attacker." [/size]

"If you do really learn to control it, you can probably make it fun on your own," Corinne pointed out. "If you figure out what exactly you're using to deflect things, you can probably do a lot with it." Her eyes came back to the conversation. "If it's a hard surface, you might be able to rest things on it, or even jump on it and let it deflect you higher."
She shrugged. "It sounds weird, but it's a thought. You wouldn't think fluid would be too useful just moving around unless it was for something destructive," she pointed out. "But if you can change serotonin levels inside the body, you can start literally playing with people's emotions."

"If it's a hard surface, you might be able to rest things on it, or even jump on it and let it deflect you higher." Aurora thought about this, and quickly decided that she liked Corinne even more now. "Perhaps if the attack came from below, I could. But my power is mostly for defense anyway, I'd have to work hard to find out what else it can do." She smiled, silently going over the possibilities.
"It sounds weird, but it's a thought. You wouldn't think fluid would be too useful just moving around unless it was for something destructive. But if you can change serotonin levels inside the body, you can start literally playing with people's emotions." Aurora smiled. "Wouldn't that be useful? It's almost like Empathy." Aurora's face lit up, and she got an idea. "What if I could... Direct the deflection? I've never tried that before, but I think I could do it with a little practice. And maybe I can create some kind of a force field with it." Aurora nodded to herself. "Corinne, you make up for the creativity I lack." She grinned.

She caught on to the way Aurora was talking about her powers. Whether she was explaining how much time it would take to control her deflection or what extent she would be able to control it to, everything seemed to have one central theme for her. "You sound like you've really taken time to learn how your magic works in a fight," she noted.
"Have you had to fight a lot?" The question was legitimate. If she happened to be an Arcanist or a Serenist, she could have been heavily involved in the struggle. "And don't worry, I'm sure you can be just as creative. I think I just had a good moment." She grinned again.

"You sound like you've really taken time to learn how your magic works in a fight." Hell, yes. The Phoenix pays you no favors. "Have you had to fight a lot?" Aurora smirked. "I've been trained all my life. You see, I wasn't born in Phoenix, Arizona, I was born in Phoenix, the witch cult. And there was half-truth to the problems I told you about. My "family" is trying to kill my sister." Aurora looked down. "I've been raised really differently from others, Corinne. I'm just letting you know, in case of..." She trailed off, not knowing how to finish, and kind of not wanting to finish. She didn't want to think about it, the Phoenix. They were like her biggest flaw, one she couldn't get rid of. Mista and Kia tried to get away from it, and look where they are now.

"That must have been rough..." She noted understandingly. Aurora's smoke led her to think she was somewhat proud of her 'heritage,' but she wasn't sure how temporary that may have been. "If they're trying to kill your sister, why even acknowledge them as family?" Even if it was some sort of tribal issue, it still would have made her uneasy if she felt obligated to pay them any sort of respect when they were a clear and present threat to her.
"...And warn me in case of what?" Her expression dulled. If she was going to have to start fighting now, it wouldn't have been the worst thing in the world, but she could honestly say she wouldn't be looking forward to it. With her lifestyle, it was almost inevitable, but at nineteen years old, the ordeal would strike her as a bit sudden. Abandoning one of the few other witches she could find wasn't an option for her- for either of their sakes.
