knock.
knock knock...
knock knock knock....
BANG!
"Nathan!"
Amelia's voice startled passers by as she yelled through the door at the male. If anyone had a right to at the moment, it was her. He did suggest that the two spend some kind of time together, after all she was leaving for in a month to go back to Paris, and knowing Nathan as well as she did, she doubted he would visit very often. So here she was, standing on his doorstep, carrying two bags of junk food a few movies, and their favorite video games. the last item was a bit awkward for her to purchase, being that she was a nineteen year old girl who looked as if she wouldn't even know how to hold a controller.
But she did know, and on occasion, she would let Nathan know as well. The two were competitive when it came to gaming, and if she could beat him a few times before leaving for Paris, her gaming throne would be safe, at least until she returned.
So here she was, banging on the door for what seemed like an eternity, but was only about 10 minutes, waiting for him to let her in." Oh if he is still asleep..." she said with an irked tone. Amelia sighed heavily, blowing a strand of her red hair out of her face before attacking the door once more.
" Nathan Lucas King, If you don't open this door I swear I'll.... I'll....I'll do something horrible if you don't open this door!" she said, shaking her head at the emptiness of the threat. she never was good at making them, especially if it was towards him. Amelia, giving up on being angry decided to switch tactics and pouted, resting her head on the door. " Nathan." she whined through the door." This stuff is heavy....and I want to watch movies so open the door man!"

Nathan heard a loud banging coming from his apartment door. His eyes shot open in a startle and he nearly flipped off the couch like a fish out of water. He looked over at the clock and had nearly forgotten that he told Amelia to swing by. Nearly in a panic, he didn’t head straight to the door to allow her in to take a seat. He rushed down the hallway and into his small, closet-sized bathroom. His hair was messy, but it always was. He liked the rugged kind of look. He quickly grabbed his toothbrush and squirted a glob of peppermint flavoured toothpaste on to the end of it. Before putting it into his mouth, he wet the end of it to moisten it. For some reason oddly enough, toothpaste always tasted better if it had water on the top. He began to brush his teeth quickly so he wouldn’t keep her waiting too long, but the banging at the door got louder and louder. “Hold on!” He yelled, accidentally spitting out some toothpaste on to his clean shirt. He spit out the remaining toothpaste in his mouth and took a quick rinse of water to make sure of it. He pranced into his bedroom and pulled off his shirt, grabbing a plain, black shirt in return. He pulled it over his head and made it over to his door. “What’s the password?” He yelled out before beginning to laugh. “I’m just kidding.” He said after a few seconds. He pulled the door open, and allowed her to enter the room.
“Whoa, you really did bring a truck full of stuff. All I have is a bottle of tequila, and the TV. That is, if you’re even into drinking tonight.” He said with a shrug. They drank together on occasion. Nathan always loved a few drinks here and there to raise the moods of the room. He grabbed some things out of the poor girls hands to relieve her from the weight and threw it down on to the coffee table. “So, what will it be first? Some friendly chatter, a movie or a few matches of games? Which… obviously I will win.” He said with a large smirk spread across his face.

“Nathan I swear on cheese and crackers…” She began when she heard his voice ask for a password. She waited for a moment more before he finally opened the door. She looked at him for a moment more, trying to frown but couldn’t hold on to it.” What is it with you and not wearing pants?” She asked, shaking her head as she laughed at him. Even though she had seen him in his boxers before, hell she has seen him naked before, though that was a complete accident, the sight of him in his comically printed boxers always brought a smile to her face. “Well, you haven’t changed a bit, chicken legs.” She said snickering slightly, poking fun at the man she considered her brother. She happily gave some of the bags to him, carrying the rest to the table herself.
“Yes, I did.” She said as she began digging through the contents of the bags.” If I know one thing it’s that there is never too much junk food…and who better to pig out with that my best friend who won’t judge me because I eat like it’s going out of style.” She added with a smile at said friend. Though she was small, Amelia could eat, and had no trouble admitting it. At his cocky statement, Amelia raised an eyebrow at him, placing her hands on her hips. “Excuse me Sir Nathan, but who was the badass red head who kicked your butt in Tekken 5 the last time we played? And I remind you that I had a broken fingernail.” She added. “But I think we should hold those till later. I really want to watch this horror movie I bought.” Amelia said turning back to the table, digging through the bags. “And who knows? Maybe you’ll think of a strategy of winning this time….though you probably still one have a chance.” She concluded with a smile.
“And yes, I am definitely up for drinking tonight.” She added finally turning to him, done with her adjusting of the “party favors” so to speak. Amelia, not matter how carefree she could be, was a bit OCD when it came to arranging things. “I haven’t had one in….a few hours actually.” She said looking at her wrist as if she was wearing a watch, hoping that it showed she was joking. She grabbed the movies and held them in front of his face. “Pick one! And we can talk while we watch.”

“Chicken legs? Nahhh, I have model legs.” Nate said with a wink. “You know you like me best without pants.” He teased. After placing all of the contents on to the table, He made his way over to the kitchen. Like the rest of his place, the kitchen was small but had enough counter space for a single person to use. He reached up to grip on to the cupboard to grab a couple large bowls and two clear glasses. Taking out the dishes was a little more noisy then he initially meant it to be. He hit the bowls off of several other dishes causing a loud clanging of glass. But even over all the noise he listened to Amelia talk about being able to shove food in her mouth without being judged. “I know, eh? it’s a wonder why you aren’t 500 pounds.” Nathan joked. He set all the bowls and glasses on the counter and grabbed the bottle of tequila to pour about a shots worth in both the glasses. He stared at the glass and shrugged his shoulder adding another shots worth in the glass. He figured that they might as well down some drinks and get happy, after all he wanted her to have an incredible night. Nathan checked in the fridge in search for something to place in the drinks so they wouldn’t have to drink down straight alcohol. Nothing. He closed the fridge and looked around, he had a bottle of sprite on the counter already. ‘This cant taste too bad. It will probably be good..’ he thought to himself, and headed over to fill up the glasses with sprite.
Since he worked at a restaurant, holding various dishes in his hands all at once became sort of a specialty. He walked over to the coffee table and added placed the bowls and the drinks on it. “Hey, you only won that many times because I was busy downing drinks while you took advantage and won those games.” He said, rolling his eyes. He watched her hold up two movies and Nate practically wanted to scream and jump around like a crazy fan girl. She had picked two movies, one old horror film and another brand new one which he had been dying to see. “Oh, you picked up insidious! I have the best friend ever! Lets put that one it.” He smiled widely, grabbing it from her and walking over to place the movie into the DVD player. He bend down and waited for the old DVD to eject from the system. “I placed your drink on the table, but you might not want to down it.” He said remembering how much alcohol he had actually poured into the glasses. Once the DVD spit out, he placed it in and pushed it in, walking over to the couch to lounge on it.

Amelia rolled her eyes at him before smirking. “Oh baby, you know me so well.” She said playfully, fluttering her eyes at him before shaking her head. As he headed into the kitchen, she slipped off her shoes, the yellow and black checkered vans claiming a spot near the door. She stretched her toes for a few moments, frowning slightly at her mismatched pair of socks. She didn’t mind the contrast of the two patterns, but she was seriously considering someone was stealing her socks, leaving her no choice but to wear whatever she could find, as long as they clean. After another moment or two of contemplating a sock thief, she returned her attention to Nathan, just as he spoke of the miracle of her not being severely obese. “That is because I exercise. Not all of us are born with a great metabolism or a set of abs you could iron on.” She said hopping onto the counter beside him as he began a percussion solo, clashing the dishes together as he attempted to fix the drinks.” Why can’t you ever just ask for help?” She asked him, resting her head in the palms of her hands.” Not that I would help you, but still.” She said in a matter-of-factly tone. “And speaking of abs...” She said, lifting her shirt enough to see her stomach. “I actually have some…well I’m starting to get some.” She said, poking at the slight definition that began to show. Hopping off the counter, she gathered a bag of potato chips and opened them, pouring them into one of the bowls on the coffee table. At the mention of being taken advantage of, Amelia laughed. “Oh, whatever. I don’t need to get you drunk to beat you in a video game that we both know you had no chance of winning.” She declared, eating one of the chips. “I just have skills.” She stated finally. At Nate’s statement of their friend ship, she rolled her eyes. “And you’re just now realizing this?” She asked at his declaration, a smile on her face as she watched him practically cheer for her choice of movies. She tossed the other movie on the table as she walked around to the couch, picking up the glass of tequila. By the time he had finished what he was saying, she had already turned it up. After sputtering for a few moments, she looked at him, her eyes watering slightly. “Nathan, are you trying to put hair on my chest?” She asked, her voice still rasping from the burn of the drink. She could, when she was prepared for it, could down a straight shot of vodka without blinking. But that…that just caught her off guard. She coughed for a moment or two as she joined him on the couch, trying to get comfortable as the previews started. “Oh my lord Nate, why are you so rude, taking up the couch when you have a guest.” She groused playfully. She stretched over him, trying to block his view of the screen.

“Hey, so do I. I wake up for an early morning jog. Or if I don’t make that it’s a late night one. But that’s because I always am jam packed full of energy.” He said. He watched as she lifted up her shirt carefully, it hadn’t been the first time he saw her stomach. In fact, he had seen it multiple times when they went swimming. But this time she was right, she was getting some abdomen muscles. Nate smiled and approached her closely only to pull up his shirt as well. He looked down at his stomach and back over to hers. “Hmm, Doesn’t quite beat mine yet.” He teased before backing away and pulling his shirt back down.
As they were back in the living room preparing for the movie he listened as she tried to sneak her way around the fact that she won the video games because he had been drinking. “You do need to get me drunk to beat me actually. Why do you think we are drinking tonight and saving the video games until later on?” He said, squinting his eyes at her playfully. “Oh, im on to your little tricks.” He said.
His couch was comfortable and practically hugged the entire body as one lounged on to it. He had taken up the entire couch but there was enough room for her to lay beside him. She was petite and could fit into any small space. Nathan lounged on his couch with his arm propping up his upper body. He watched her take a drink of her tequila and sprite mixture and her face instantly caused him to laugh. She looked like she hadn’t been expecting it to be that strong, but he did warn her. “I told you! Suck it up princess, you need this.” He said. Before you knew it she was playing around that he took up the entire couch and was rude. She blocked his eye vision of the movie trailers that played on the Tv. “Do you mind? Im trying to watch this.” He said in a deep, firm tone. But they both knew he could never act that way, he was always fooling around in one way or another. Before she had the chance to move he had shifted his body up to grab her by the waist and pull her down on the couch next to him. A smile set onto his lips and he let go of his grip around her. “You might as well get comfortable, cause I’m not moving.” He declared. “But first, could you be a dear and pass me my drink?” He asked.
Sorry, this one ended up blahhh, and kind of short.

Amelia rolled her eyes at Nathan’s cocky admission, pulling her shirt down with a huff.” Dream crusher.” She said playfully as she watched him move around." I'll get there one day. And when I do, I'll never wear a shirt again. I'm gonna show all of this off." She added with a dramatic tone, running her hands over her body. At his playful accusation, Amelia gasped, placing her hand to her chest. “Why I Nathan, I’m hurt that you even suspect that.” She said, pouting.” How could you wound me so?” she asked before he spoke of his warning. “Well you should have warned me faster!” she retorted, sticking her tongue out at him. “And I am not a princess.” She added as she squirmed over the other’s body.
Amelia smiled as he attempted to be serious and ask her to move, shaking her head. “No, no I think I’m rather comforta….hey!” she squealed as she was manhandled. Amelia nudged his arm before settling herself against his warmth. At his request, she raised an eyebrow, but gave him the glass regardless. Amelia sighed slightly before relaxing a bit more as the movie began. “So…what have you been up to?” she asked him, stuffing a chip into her mouth.” I went by the shop and they said you quit.” she added after she wad done chewing.
i understand, i tried to leave it kind of open this time so we could keep it flowing.

“You’ll never wear a shirt again? What about those shop signs that say ‘no shirt, no shoes, no service?….Or.. Whatever those fancy signs say.” He said shifting his eyes to look up and think about the signs. It was something along those lines anyways and he was sure she could figure out what he was getting at. “Come on, you know its ture. You’re just bottled full of pure evil.” He laughed.
His smile seemed to set place as she cuddled in next to him. He brought his arm out to comfortably lay it on her side and rubbed his fingers lightly over her hip bone. “You comfortable? Or do you need me to shift over” He asked. Though Nathan normally threw jokes and made fun at Amelia, he really did always care for her. Little things like her comfort mattered a lot to him. If she was uncomfortable, he would wiggle and squirm around until she found a position to be perfect.
She mentioned the fact that he quit his job and he nodded. He quit his job to figure himself out for a while. Money wasn’t an issue now, but sooner or later he would have to grab another job. “Er, yeah..” He said, looking down to her. “Ive just been going through something really strange lately. It started about a month ago and I need to figure myself out for a bit.” He said, looking down at her. In a way, he was scared. The unknown was the scariest place one could venture off to. And Nate was splatted right in the center of it, trying to figure out what was going on with his body.

Amelia turned her towards him, as much as she could in the position she was, and laughed slightly at the thoughtful look on his face. “That’s what we have take-out for.” She said in a singsong.” And if I ever need anything else I can always as you…because be honest, you know you can’t resist me.” She said with a smile. “Then again, not being able to go into shopping malls would put a damper on my life…I’ll just have to bring a jacket in those cases.” She said thoughtfully.
She scoffed at the comment, pretending to be taken aback.” Me? Full of evil? I’m a sweet as peach cobbler and twice as nice.” She said in Southern accent.” And if there is anyone evil in this room, it’s you…always being….you.” She said with a laugh, unable to back up the statement. In truth, she could never think up any reason to ever see Nathan in a negative way. After being friends for so long, he was pretty much the only person she knew would never change, at least never for the worst.
If it were possible, Amelia moved closer to the boy, able to feel the rise and fall of his chest as he breathed. She shook her head at his question. “Nope, this is perfect,” a smile stayed poised on her face as she said it. At his next statement, Amelia shifted slightly, looking up at him. It was rare that anything ever put Nathan on edge, but when it did, Amelia felt the tension as well. The pensive look on his face told her it wasn’t just as simple as he wanted it to seem. “What is it?” she asked.” You know you can tell me anything.” She added, placing her hand over the one he lay on her hip.

“You’re right. You would probably even feel bad harming a wild flower growing out in an open field” He said. He looked over at the coffee table which was slightly too far. He managed to fit his fingers underneath it to pull it against the couch so neither of them had to extend their arms very far. He grabbed his cup and brought it up to his lips, and gulped down about half of the glass. He figured that he might as well down it as fast as possible and get a good buzz going. He hadn’t drank with Amelia for a while and he always loved being around her every second he could. As soon as he swallowed down the tequila filled drink, he lifted the glass chugging down the rest. It was his way of drinking that always allowed her to win all the videogames, even though she was pretty good for someone who played them awkwardly. He placed his cup down as his eyes clenched shut for a moment. A deep exhale of air expelled from his lips as the burn began to set in. “Holy shit, I really did put a lot in there.” He said before he could open his eyes fully again.
He shifted slightly again, as each curve of the body fit directly against the others. They were comfortable and kept each other warm from the exchange of body heat. She was right, she was probably the only person in the entire world he could express himself to tonight. Others would have called him crazy and probably got off his couch and left him alone to deal with himself. “Well, it started about a month ago.” He began, sighing deeply. He didn’t want to tell this part of the story but he found it to be mandatory. “I was walking home from a really shady bar that I was watching one of my friends sing at. And it was around 3am, and the only lights came from a couple street lights. Before you know it a really large man came behind me with some sort of dagger. And normally you know, I would have been terrified. He wanted something, probably my wallet.. I just wasn’t listening. But a sudden rush of just… anger swept over me and I told him leave me the hell alone. But he wouldn’t, he had the dagger hovering close to my stomach and..” He paused, gulping deeply. “I don’t know! I became so angry, I lashed out. I wont go into detail but the man ended up… not with us anymore and I was stuck in horror from what I had done. I mean, it was self defence.” He added, looking down at Amelia with his aqua coloured orbs trying not to frighten her. “But ever since then I’ve been having these.. Hallucinations. I will be doing something normal, like looking in a mirror. And the one second I will be me, and the next I will look down at my hands to see.. Long.. Pointed nails. And I swear, I’m not crazy at all, it looks so real. And the other day, I looked at myself, saw a reflection in glass actually and my eyes were a vibrant yellow colour. And when I blinked it all went back to normal.” He spoke, keeping eye contact with her the entire time. His hand rubbed her hip bone softly as he shrugged his shoulders. “And I’m actually quite terrified. I don’t know what’s going on with me and I don’t think any kind of Doctor will help. They will just tell me im crazy, which I’m not.” He finished, letting a pause out for Amelia to speak. He hoped that all the information at once didn’t startle her. He wanted to be able to tell her anything without her being scared. He wanted her to just be there for him even if he was beginning to go crazy. He just wanted answers.

Amelia smirked. “I told you so.” She said simply as him down the homemade mixture. She waited for him to let the alcoholic sting set, and then pass into a dull burn. “I’ll be sure to bring something else next time I visit.” She said with a smile, grabbing her own glass and instead of downing it like her first mistake, she sipped a small amount and swallowed it deftly after it entered her mouth. She pursed her lips for a moment, the fire in her throat a bit stronger she remember, then relaxed, placing the glass down once more. She then turned her body slightly, her icy pools meeting Nathan’s as he began to explain his situation.
Amelia listened intently as Nathan spoke, clasping his hand as he told her about the ordeal with the unknown man. She almost lost him, and being in France at the time, she would have never known. Amelia unconsciously laced their fingers, her subconscious needing the contact to bring her back from her depressing thoughts. Any other person would have been trying to convince him into turning himself over to the cops, while not to mention worming their way towards the door. The thought hadn’t even crossed her mind. As long as Nathan was alright, nothing else mattered to her. She gave him a reassuring smile, nodding as he reaffirmed it was in self-defense.” I know Nate. I believe you. I know you well enough.” She said, giving his hand a squeeze.
Her eyebrows drew together as he continued, the cranks in her head already at work. Hallucinations did usually mean someone was a bit loopy, but looking into Nathan’s eyes, she knew he was still strong in his sanity. The blue eyed man was far from crazy, and even if his story did sound a bit far-fetched, she knew he wasn’t just pulling her leg. He was really worried about these sudden instances, and she wanted to help him any way she could. Amelia focused on his words, making sure to keep certain words locked in her memory for future reference.
As he finished, Amelia sighed softly, giving a nod. “Well, obviously any man of logic would think you were a bit loopy if you suddenly walked into his office and told him the same thing you just told me.” She said with honesty. “I mean, it does sound a bit like a horror movie Nate.” She added. “But, I believe you, and whatever it takes, I’m going to help you get through it.” She added with a smile, wanting to reassure him.” Tomorrow, I’ll try looking up a few things on the web and I’ll get as much info as I can. Even if we can’t explain it all, at least we’ll have something for you to go on, right?” she concluded.
“But for right now, let’s just enjoy ourselves. We still have a movie to watch and you still have to laugh at my lame jokes.” Amelia said with a smirk. She was going to help him, that was for sure, but worrying about it now just didn’t seem very productive. If she could at least put it out of his mind for a little while, they could both be at ease and simply enjoy each other’s company.

As his story was told he watched her every facial expressions to ensure that he hadn’t completely frightened her. He told her his story in complete confidence that she wouldn’t avoid all contact with him and He felt her fingers lace into his as they fit perfectly together. As her hand gave a slight squeeze and his story was finished being told, her simple touch brought a smile to his lips. As if a giant boulder was lifted from his shoulders as her statement was made. He was delighted that she believed him and didn’t instantly jump to the conclusion that he was a deranged psycho killer. He wouldn’t normally kill someone for the enjoyment of it, he lost himself in another personality that was quite not of himself. With that being said, if anyone was ever going to harm Amelia, he wouldn’t sweat throwing them against the ground or even sending a bullet through their heart. Her body was turned to face him and his eyes locked with hers. Maybe it was the alcohol in his system, and it was probably the wrong time but he couldn’t help himself from wanting to kiss her for the very first time. It had taken him a while, but he knew his feelings for her but drew the line to where he could express them. They were something he kept to himself. “You don’t know how much that means to me. I was scared that you would leave. I haven’t mentioned any of this to anyone. “ He said sighing in relief.
“I know anyone would think I’m crazy. You should feel special that I trust you enough with that information.” He said raising both eyebrows. “A horror movie is right. Whenever I see these crazy things I nearly have a heart attack.” He said breaking the eye contact and drifting his eyes away briefly. “And I re-state the obvious. I have the best, best friend in the entire world. If you figure out anything give me a call, or stop by right away. I will be wanting to hear whatever theory possible.” He said with a smile. Self-diagnosing on Google usually lead to the craziest things. By the time she was finished looking things up she would probably tell him he had a rare-type of brain malfunction or something along those lines.
Nathan chewed on his bottom lip as she stated that they should just enjoy the rest of the night and not worry about anything. And that idea sounded perfect to him. He wanted to enjoy the night, finish the movie and crush her on all the videogames she brought over. But something couldn’t subside the magnetic feeling that had taken over his body. His lips hovered over hers just as they did sometimes. With Amelia, they were always touchy with one another. Cuddling was done on a daily basis, but that’s just how they always were. But for some reason they had never gone as far as having their first kiss together. So the closeness wasn’t the reason he was drawn closer. Nathan slowly drew closer and kissed her upper lip very softly, as if their lips hadn’t even met. His eyes again drifted back into her gaze as he drew back a little. And before she could tell him to back off, his eyes closed and his lips pushed back against hers. The kiss was gentle, but passionate and something inside was waiting for her to push him away as he imagined she would. But maybe she felt the same? Either way, he was taking his chances tonight. He might as well seeing as he basically just told her the biggest and craziest thing on his mind.

At the mention of her leaving him, Amelia flicked his nose. “You know I’d never leave you.” She said defensively. “We’ve had epic disagreements and I’ve never once left you, no matter how stubborn you were.” She added to her statement, making it obvious to him who she thought was the instigator of said arguments. Amelia raised an eyebrow at his next comment, rolling her eyes. “You should be glad I trust you with my life. Because if I didn’t, and you would have said that, I wouldn’t still be on this couch.” She said. “I’d be on my way home and you’d have been laid out on the floor after me kicking your ass for being crazy.”
Bringing herself to be somewhat serious once again, Amelia smiled at his praise of her loyalty in their friendship. “And don’t you ever forget it.” She stated. She nodded when he spoke of getting in contact with him when she found out anything. “Of course I will. You’re healthy, and sanity, are my priority, Nathan. We’ll have everything figured out and back to normal soon enough.” She said with a tone of sureness, looking away for a moment to gather her thoughts. When she turned back to him, she had never expected what happened next.
At the first tentative touch of Nathan’s lips, Amelia froze. Nathan, her best friend Nathan, her best friend Nathan who played video games with her, and laughed at her horrible jokes, and who usually had horrible taste in women, had just kissed her. But do you know the most confusing part of the situation was for Amelia? She wished he hadn’t stopped.
Why? In her heart, she knew why and she had known it for some time now. She cared for Nathan a lot, more than just a friend, but not in the sense of a brother or sister. She would always try to hide it though, and hide it well she did. By playing the gorgeous best friend who was always the first reference when a new girl came along, trying to take him away. She would always find reasons why he shouldn’t date them, telling him that the girl he deserved would be close to perfect, and he would know it. Hopefully, the kiss meant that it would be her.
Amelia looked at Nathan as he pulled back further, her eyes filled with a mixture of confusion, hope, and fear. Confusion because she couldn’t fathom why he would wait so long into their friendship to make such a move, hope because she wanted to believe that it was actually happening, and she wasn’t losing her mind, and fear because at the end of the night, the intimate moment could have simply been alcohol induced, and it was never meant to happen.
The thoughts made themselves scarce, however, when Nathan dove in for a second kiss. After growing wide for a moment, Amelia’s crystal clear orbs slowly closed, and she reciprocated the kiss fully. She turned her upper body towards him, placing her free hand on the back of his neck, fingering the short hairs at the nape of his neck and she pulled him closer.

“I’m glad. I don’t think I could bare to live without you around.” He said. “Hell, I can hardly keep myself together when you’re in France and I’m left here. I always end up doing something completely and utterly stupid.” He said as his eyes shifted up to the left. He had always done stupid things when she left. When she was gone he didn’t have to worry whether she would freak out over little stunts he pulled. So jumping off large structures, or cliffs into water always crossed his mind. And the odd tagging of something, just for the hell of it. Nathan laughed at her next comment about kicking his ass all the way home. And this time he didn’t have any joke to throw back at her because she was absolutely right. If they weren’t as close as they had been, that is exactly what would have happened. His smile didn’t seem to vanish as he didn’t respond for a moment. He really didn’t know what to say about that one. So he replied with something that just came off the top of his head. “Correction. You would try to kick my ass.” He said before nodding. But he knew she would probably beg to differ.
She always had a charm to comfort him in the worst of times. She even comforted him after an embarrassing act he had done, or something stupid that was totally avoidable. But that’s what she signed up for when she befriended Nathan, a crazy guy who liked to get his adrenaline pumping. “Promise?” He asked. “I want it figured out as soon as possible so we can get me all fixed up and back to normal. I probably am just feeling guilty or something. I don’t know. But we’ll figure it out.” He said in all seriousness. He didn’t want to express to her all of his feelings because he didn’t want her to worry. In reality he was terrified and wanted to climb into a deep hole. But the presence of Amelia was always so positive and cheery that it took the hard edges off his nerves and allowed him to settle down.
As he took his chances for the night he knew that the kiss was random and he had a good chance of being pushed away. He figured his physically attraction tonight was not from the alcohol seeing as it hadn’t yet kicked into his system. He didn’t even feel a slight buzz effects from the drink either. But he was taken in by it, and slowly losing himself as he kissed her. He knew for a while how he felt for her and tried to go to other women to try to push all feelings aside. But with the other women they usually lasted as a one-night stand or a hook-up buddy for a few weeks until he finally let them go.
He felt her hands travel up the back of his neck and his arms quickly embraced her body, pulling her on top of him. He allowed his fingers to sneak under the back of her shirt and massage her lower back. His lips kissed her with an eager passion which drained all prior nerves he was feeling. His fingers crawled up her spine before he rubbed them back down. He wanted the moment to last forever without stopping but he still felt unsure of how long Amelia would go for. It was hard for him knowing how she felt. They always bottled up emotions for each other and locked them away. A smile crept up on his lips as he kissed her and he paused for a moment, completely speechless by what just took place. If this is what they meant by movie night, he would just have to invite her over for another one soon.

“And then I end up hearing about how you almost got yourself killed, ironically because you were trying to keep from dying of boredom.” Amelia said as he spoke about his life when she was in France. “And every time I offer to take you with me, you always say no, probably because you know I wouldn’t let you risk your life for some adrenaline rush that could leave you dead, and have me turned into a crazy cat lady at the age of 20.” She added. Amelia rolled her eyes at Nathan’s narcissistic comment about her ass kicking skills, deciding to keep her reply to herself, knowing he would simply one-up her again on the subject, simply because he did, in fact, have a few more tricks up his sleeve when it came to fighting.
Amelia gave him a smiled and nodded reassuringly. “Cross my heart and hope to die.” She said without hesitation. “Of course we’ll figure it all out, look who you have for a best friend…and besides, it’s not like I have anything better to do.” She added jokingly. In truth, had she any other pressing matters, they would have indeed been put to the side in favor of helping him. Knowing he would have done the same had it been her asking for help, she needed no other reason or reward other than knowing that they would always have each other’s backs, even in the direst of times.
When Amelia felt a smile grace Nathan’s lips against her, she couldn’t help but let a small laugh escape as she returned the smile, pecking his lips softly before pulling back to look at him.
Elated would not be a good enough word to describe how Amelia felt at that moment. After harboring feelings for the other for the longest time, she couldn’t have been any happier than she was right now. Being in Nathan’s arms at that moment, she knew it was more than just a glass of liquor that had caused the change, but she didn’t care to find out what it was at the time, being too enraptured by the other’s touch.
A small smiled still graced her lips as she looked at him, dropping her eyes low and in a bashful manner as she tucked a curtain of red behind one of her ears. Nathan’s fingertips left goose bumps in their wake as they caressed Amelia’s skin, causing a small shiver to course through her form. She brought her eyes back to his, after staring down for a good moment, preparing to initiate another kiss before her infinitely perfect eyesight caught sight of something she hoped Nathan had not.
A faint, but evident lavender tint circled around the rim of her pupils, slowly bleeding out to fill them completely. She gasped softly, as if she had been hurt her physically.
It wasn’t the alcohol.
It wasn’t Nathan’s doing.
It was hers.
“Stop!” she yelled quickly, pulling herself out of Nathan’s embrace and away from his body, as if his touch had burned her. In her hastiness, she fell from the couch, but didn’t stay down long enough to be hurt as she bolted from the living room quickly, and ran down the hall of his home into the small bathroom, closing the door behind her.
Amelia turned after making sure the door was locked, and leaned against the door, her heart pounding in her chest. She snapped her face towards the mirror, her violet eyes still looking back at her as she tried to calm down.
